Richmond, Virginia, has become home to a groundbreaking destination that caters to sports enthusiasts and collectors with a fresh approach. Parlay at Graybo’s, nestled in the vibrant Scott’s Addition neighborhood, marries the convivial vibe of a sports bar with the interactive allure of a sports card shop, offering a one-of-a-kind experience that is taking the city by storm.
Conceived by Duke Dodson, Ryan Fitz, and Gray “Graybo” Burnette, Parlay at Graybo’s was imagined as a communal hub where visitors can relish the excitement of unwrapping new card packs, partake in live card breaks, catch live sports action on expansive screens, all while indulging in delicious food and drinks. The venue made its grand debut on May 18th with a special event featuring the viewing of the Preakness Stakes, accompanied by live music and engaging activities.
Occupying the space previously held by the Circuit Arcade Bar on 3117 W. Leigh Street, Parlay at Graybo’s seamlessly connects the sports bar and card shop through a breezeway enhanced with a miniature putting green, elevating the interactive and immersive nature of the establishment.
The visionaries behind Parlay at Graybo’s bring a wealth of experience and a deep-seated passion for the sports card industry. Duke Dodson, a card collector since the late 1980s, reignited his interest in collecting in 2021 with a background in business and finance, making significant contributions to the real estate landscape in Richmond. Gray Burnette, a history buff and former educator, transitioned into this venture after leaving the educational sector due to pandemic-related challenges. Ryan Fitz, with a background in property management and technology, focuses on customer engagement, infusing a modern touch into the business operations.
Inspired by their childhood memories of collecting cards and a vision to create a space catering to both children and adults, the trio expanded an initial modest sports card shop into a vast, versatile venue. The new location boasts remarkable growth with a 3,300-square-foot sports bar and a 2,200-square-foot card shop, aiming to attract a larger audience due to its strategic placement in a buzzing entertainment district.
Parlay at Graybo’s introduces an innovative feature that allows guests to engage in or witness live card breaks from the bar, injecting an element of thrill akin to game days. Through their eBay store, weekly podcast, and online live breaks, the founders foster a community of collectors, nurturing engagement with enthusiasts locally and online.
As Ryan Fitz pointed out, the Richmond area is teeming with collectors of varying levels, from newcomers to seasoned connoisseurs and investors, making Parlay at Graybo’s a welcoming space for all. The closure of the former venue, Circuit, paved the way for this exciting venture, with Duke Dodson seizing the opportunity by acquiring the property shortly before its shutdown.
This pioneering blend of a sports bar and card shop sets Parlay at Graybo’s apart, offering an exhilarating, distinctive ambiance that is sure to attract sports aficionados and card collectors alike, promising them an unforgettable and immersive experience.
