REA’s May Encore Auction: Sports Collectibles Galore

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) is currently dazzling collectors and enthusiasts alike with its May Encore auction, a treasure trove of sports memorabilia spanning over 3,600 lots. The offerings range from complete sets of 1950s baseball cards to rare vintage gems and even historical artifacts like a check signed by Honus Wagner shortly after his baseball career came to a close.

Kicking off on a high note last Thursday, this expansive auction will run for ten days, showcasing items that pay homage to the early days of baseball up to modern sports card collections. Among the standout lots are a T206 White Border Ty Cobb Bat Off Shoulder card from 1909-1911 featuring a rare Uzit back, and a Ty Cobb rookie card hailing from the 1907 Wolverine News Postcard series.

In addition to these gems, the auction boasts vintage baseball sets such as the complete 1957 Topps Set and the nearly complete 1958 Topps set. It also features a selection of high-grade cards from 1950s Bowman and Topps collections, including rookie cards of baseball legends like Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Sandy Koufax. The event turns heads with a full set break of the iconic 1951 Bowman set, adding to the allure of the auction.

Ensuring a diverse range of offerings, the auction also includes memorabilia pieces like a rare ticket stub from the 1957 NFL Championship Game and a captivating 1920 Real Photo Postcard portraying the Harvard football team that participated in the Rose Bowl.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the auction’s lineup, REA President Brian Dwyer emphasized the exceptional quality of the lots, following the successful $15.4 million spring sale by the auction house. Dwyer mentioned the strong interest from collectors and the premium nature of the items that are poised for bidding.

Interested bidders have the opportunity to partake in this remarkable auction until May 19 on the REA website, with bids starting at a modest $10 for each item. Not only does this auction offer a significant chance for collectors to acquire rare and prestigious sports memorabilia, but it also serves as a celebration of the rich history encapsulated in sports collectibles and memorabilia.
