Meta Description: Fanatics and Sotheby’s collaboration presents premium sports cards in high-profile auctions.

Fanatics and Sotheby’s have recently concluded their second joint auction, raking in a remarkable $2 million from the sale of just 11 sports cards. At the centerpiece of the auction was a Triple Logoman card featuring basketball legends Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman, which fetched an impressive $600,000.

Dubbed the “Exquisite | Capsule Collection,” the auction exclusively offered premium cards from Upper Deck’s renowned Exquisite series. Notable highlights included a LeBron James 2003 Rookie Patch Autograph, a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant Dual Logoman Autograph, and a Magic Johnson and Larry Bird Dual Logoman Patch Autograph.

The auction predominantly shone the spotlight on NBA icons, particularly focusing on the likes of Michael Jordan and LeBron James, underscoring the enduring demand for legendary figures in the sports card market.

This event comes on the heels of their successful initial collaboration, “Holy Grails,” where a LeBron James Exquisite card was sold for $432,000. In this latest auction, a different version of the same card commanded $456,000, highlighting the consistent value of premium cards while reflecting market fluctuations. Just a few years ago, the same card garnered over $900,000 in sales, with similar versions reaching peaks over $2 million in 2022.

The Exquisite line from Upper Deck has been instrumental in revolutionizing the sports card industry with the introduction of rookie patch autographs, now considered essential for high-end collectors. Products like Panini’s National Treasures owe their popularity to Exquisite’s innovative approach, spearheaded by Karvin Cheung in the early 2000s.

Fanatics remains steadfast in its commitment to elevate the hobby to new levels. By teaming up with Sotheby’s for these prestigious auctions, they endeavor to position sports cards as cultural treasures deserving of display in art galleries and inclusion in exclusive sales events. This strategic initiative seeks to redefine the perception of sports cards, highlighting their worth as both collectible items and artistic masterpieces.
