Rare 1913 Honus Wagner Card Headlines Sports Auction

A remarkable piece of baseball history is about to steal the spotlight at the upcoming Clean Sweep Auctions event. The star of the show? A supremely rare 1913 Honus Wagner card, originally part of the Voskamp’s Coffee set distributed solely in the Pittsburgh area. For collectors, this card represents a golden opportunity to own a piece of sports history that has become increasingly scarce over the decades.

Clean Sweep Auctions has unveiled this coveted 1913 Voskamp’s Coffee Honus Wagner card as the crown jewel of its September auction. Graded and encapsulated at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago, this card’s appearance marks only the third time a Voskamp’s Wagner has been embraced by PSA. SGC has also stepped into the mix, with just four graded examples under their belt.

What’s particularly noteworthy about this auction is that it marks the first time since 2017 that a Voskamp’s Wagner card has made a public appearance in an auction setting. This rarity alone is expected to draw a flurry of interest from passionate collectors eager to add this elusive card to their cherished collections.

In addition to the historic 1913 Wagner card, the forthcoming auction will feature a treasure trove of vintage baseball cards and memorabilia that are sure to tantalize sports enthusiasts. Two 1887 N172 Old Judge cards showcasing Hall of Famers Mike “King” Kelly and Harry Wright will be up for grabs. An E102 Ty Cobb graded PSA 2 (mk), a T206 Ty Cobb with a green background graded PSA 1.5, and a PSA 4 graded Ty Cobb (bat on shoulder) are also among the standout items.

Furthermore, there’s a Cy Young Portrait card graded PSA 5, along with a dazzling array of pre-war gems like a lot of P2 Sweet Caporal pins, an E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb, an E101 Honus Wagner graded PSA 3, and a T3 Turkey Red Ty Cobb graded PSA 1. Not to be missed are the collector-grade 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth cards, a 1941 Play Ball Joe DiMaggio graded SGC 5, and much more.

One of the highlights of this auction is the nearly complete autographed 1952 Bowman Baseball set, which includes signature cards of Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays. For basketball fans, iconic cards like the PSA 6 1984-85 Star Michael Jordan and the PSA 8 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan are sure to captivate. Football enthusiasts can also look forward to a range of high-grade Bart Starr cards from his rookie year to his final issue in 1971.

The memorabilia section of the auction promises to be equally captivating, with items like a Walter Johnson single-signed baseball, a 1933 New York Yankees team-signed baseball featuring legends like Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, and a signed Roger Maris rookie card. Unique collectibles such as historical pennants, vintage tickets, boxing memorabilia, presidential autographs, and entertainment signatures add a diverse flair to this already impressive lineup.

With an eclectic mix of rare vintage cards, significant memorabilia, and unique collectibles, this Clean Sweep Auctions event curated by Steve Verkman is poised to be a must-visit for collectors of all interests. The inclusion of the iconic 1913 Voskamp’s Coffee Honus Wagner card not only elevates the auction’s status but also pays homage to the rich tapestry of sports history immortalized in these timeless artifacts.
