Set to hit the shelves on June 12, the 2024 Topps Series 2 is gearing up to add another layer of excitement to baseball card collections everywhere. Building on the foundation laid by Series 1, this new release brings in 350 fresh base cards to complement the initial 350. Among the new additions are more players, rookies, and some familiar faces missing from Series 1, such as Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Staying true to the successful formula established in Series 1, Series 2 maintains a lineup of parallels, short prints, and super short prints. But it doesn’t stop there. The upcoming release introduces a range of new inserts that aim to elevate the collecting experience even further. One notable addition is a short-printed set honoring Ronald Acuna’s remarkable 40/70 campaign from the previous year. Additionally, fans can look forward to special All-Star cards inspired by the 1989 Topps Set, marking the 35th anniversary of Topps’ final release of the 1980s.
Gracing the cover of Series 2 is the talented Juan Soto. Collectors can choose from two types of Hobby boxes: the traditional format comprising 20 packs with 12 cards each, and the Jumbo boxes featuring ten packs with a generous 40 cards in each. Both box variations come with a promise of an autograph or relic card, alongside silver bonus packs showcasing chrome cards, numbered autographs, and more parallels to enhance the thrill of opening packs.
The 350-card base set in Series 2 spans a diverse array of content, including veterans, rookies, Future Stars, League Leaders, and Team Cards, decked out in various parallel options like Gold Foil, Rainbow Foil, Gold, and Blue Holofoil Board. Exclusive to Jumbo packs, the Gold Foil Parallel adds an extra layer of allure to the collecting experience.
In addition to the base set, Series 2 features a plethora of new and returning inserts that are sure to captivate collectors. With six fresh insert themes introduced, including the coveted 40/70 insert showcasing Ronald Acuna’s MVP season, there’s no shortage of excitement. From City to City and Around the Horn to Covering the Field, these inserts come in multiple parallels, ranging from Blue to Platinum, with Autograph Parallels for selected subjects.
Fans of the 1989 Topps Baseball design will be delighted to see its return in Series 2, this time spotlighting new All-Star inserts that pay homage to the game’s best players. Heavy Lumber, Social Media Follow Back redemption cards, Homefield Advantage, and hand-drawn Sketch cards also make a reappearance, alongside the introduction of the highly sought-after Platinum Performers insert as a super short print.
Autographs and relics take center stage once again in Series 2, with enticing offerings such as Baseball Stars Autographs and the new 1989 Topps Baseball Autograph Cards. The latter includes dual and triple autographs, as well as rare one-of-one Platinum Parallels. The relic section boasts Game-used swatches from City Connect jerseys and Major League Material cards, with parallels extending all the way to Platinum.
