Extensive Collection of Vintage Sports Cards and Notre Dame Memorabilia Featured in Huggins & Scott’s Fall Auction

The Huggins & Scott Fall Catalog Auction is currently underway, featuring a remarkable assortment of over 1,400 items that will surely excite collectors and enthusiasts. Headlining the auction are a selection of vintage sports cards and Notre Dame football memorabilia, making it a must-see event for sports enthusiasts and fans of the legendary college football program.

One of the key highlights of the auction is the inclusion of vintage cards and memorabilia from the Arthur “Dutch” Bergman Collection. This collection showcases over a century of Notre Dame football history, with team photos dating back to the early 1900s. It’s a unique opportunity for fans to own a piece of the program’s storied past.

Among the standout items in the auction is a PSA 5 1909 T204 Ramly Walter Johnson card, a true gem for baseball card collectors. Walter Johnson, a Hall of Fame pitcher known as “The Big Train,” is considered one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. This card is a rare find and will surely attract plenty of interest.

Another notable item is a signed photo of George Gipp, a legendary figure in Notre Dame football history. Known as the “Gipper,” Gipp’s story was immortalized in the film “Knute Rockne, All-American.” His autographed photo is a prized possession for any Notre Dame fan and collector of sports memorabilia.

Adding to the allure of the auction is the introduction of the first part of an extensive autograph collection. This collection, set to expand in 2024, features autographs from both sports and non-sporting figures. It includes a near-complete 1957 Topps set, rookie cards of baseball legend Hank Aaron and football great Jim Brown, and thousands of signatures from notable personalities spanning nearly a century.

In addition to the Notre Dame memorabilia and autograph collection, the auction offers a wide variety of vintage and modern sports cards. Baseball fans will be delighted to find a 1928 Tharp’s Ice Cream Babe Ruth card and a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle Rookie card, both highly sought-after items in the card collecting community.

Basketball enthusiasts will also find treasures in this auction, such as a 1961-1962 Fleer Basketball Jerry West Rookie card and a 1980-1981 Topps Basketball Unopened Wax Box. These items hold significant historical value and have become highly coveted among collectors.

One of the unique items up for grabs is a 2021 Topps Transcendent Baseball Walter Johnson Cut Signature Box Topper. This rare find features a cut signature of the legendary Walter Johnson, making it a must-have for baseball aficionados.

For those seeking even more rare and valuable pieces, the auction features a Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig dual-signed baseball, a true treasure for fans of the New York Yankees’ iconic duo. Additionally, a complete set of the 1938 R69 Gum Inc. Horrors of War with high number key cards will be available, appealing to history buffs and card collectors alike.

Ron Oser, Huggins & Scott’s Vice President & Director of Consignments, is thrilled about the diverse offerings in this auction.
